ProWorld's development projects are community guided and volunteer driven.  As the needs of our host communities change, our projects change with them.  We are currently seeking interns to fill the following positions:

Wanted: Public Health Education Curricula Intern

Organization:

ProPeru Service Corps

Location:

Urubamba, Peru

Duration:

Minimum 1 month; preferably 2 - 3 months

Duties: Form a work group of local health and education professionals; collaborate with this work group to develop standardized and culturally competent public health education curricula to implement within primary and secondary schools in the Sacred Valley; develop implementation plan to utilize the curricula within the schools; create an evaluation plan and evaluative tools to accompany the curricula to test students' understanding of material and effectiveness of the activities included within the curricula

Education:

Background in community or public health; preferably a community health/MPH student or public health professional

Language Requirements: Intermediate - Advance Spanish; must be able to effectively communicate with communities

Wanted: Public Health Data Analyst Intern
Organization: ProPeru Service Corps
Location: Urubamba and the Sacred Valley, Peru
Duration: Minimum 1 month; preferably 2 - 3 months
Duties: Take the lead on compiling, organizing and analyzing the data obtained from ProPeru's health campaigns and surveys as part of the water filter project; interpret the data; compile statistics and write summative reports describing the results; write recommendations for future research based on findings
Education: Background in public health or epidemiology

Youth Development Intern

Location:

Mysore, India

Duration:

Minimum 1 month; preferably 2 - 3 months

Duties:

Support a grassroots program to meet the needs of special needs children in Mysore; train staff and parents on how to better care for special needs children

Education:

Background in education, health and nutrition, physiotherapy, speech therapy, disabled-friendly architecture; experience with mobility issues, art therapy, music therapy, dance therapy, child abuse, child psychology, clinical psychology or occupational therapy; experience working with aids and appliances preferred; experience living/working in rural communities preferred

Nutritional Marketing Intern

Wanted: Animal Rights/Veterinarian Assistant Intern
Organization: Veterinarian Practice
Location: Oaxaca, Mexico
Duration: Minimum 1 month
Duties: Assist licensed veterinarian in her mission to rescue, treat and find loving homes for street animals; clean, feed and play with animals to get them ready to live with a local family; set up a formal adoption process for animals; create animal rights campaigns focusing on the importance of spade/neutering pets and proper care of pets
Education: Background in the biology, veterinarian sciences, public administration; experience with animals preferred

Wanted: Journalism/Public Relations Intern
Organization: ProWorld Service Corps
Location: All ProWorld sites; preferably India, Thailand and Belize
Duration: Minimum 2 weeks
Duties: Contribute to the communication efforts to support ProWorld's mission, sustainable development and study abroad; report on issues facing our host communities and countries; visit multiple project sites within host country; write content and take photos which focus on development issues, projects, homestay living, cultural excursions and overall experience to be used in online communication channels; respond to student questions regarding host community and experiences in an online forum; conduct interviews of other onsite project interns; research and work with media outlets from home campus/community in order to gain media exposure for development issues, international education and ProWorld's projects
Education: Background in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, international relations

Wanted: AIDS - Tourism Project Intern
Organization: ECOT
Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Duration: 5 - 10 weeks
Duties: Identification of the research issue and initiation of the research project; conduct in-depth surveys/interviews with organizations working in the field of AIDS (health, stigma, empowerment, women/men, children); literature review to learn about available research, projects, activities, etc.; identification of the research question; identification of the target groups for the research (tourists, tourism industry, NGOs, civil society groups); identification of the destinations for the research (country, district, town, etc.) project; writing up a draft of the research proposal.

Intern will be based at ECOT and have access to a PC with internet and phone; travel allowances for research relevant interviews/meetings will be paid for by ECOT.
Education: Background in social science with previous research experience

Wanted: Education/Teaching Intern
Organization: Croston's House Children's Home
Location: Chiang Mai/Lamphun, Thailand
Duration: Minimum 1 month; preferably 2 - 3 months
Duties: Create sport activities and develop the standardized curricula for orphans that is focus on child development; create educational materials support; set up an English class after school to improve their English skill; support fund raising effort for the foundation through grant writing; ability to work without supervision, creativity with young children is a must; additional creative ideas are strongly encouraged
Education: Background in education, curriculum development, training and focus on child development; experience with children is preferable
Language Requirements: English, opportunity to study Thai language and use it in a work setting.
Special Requirement:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to stay on site at the orphanage during week and/or weekend hours, depending on the arrangement made by ProWorld, the intern, and the organization.
**  Only women are accepted for this position and background checks are required.  This is also an internship offering extensive exposure to rural life, and volunteers should be aware personal flexibility is essential for this internship.
