Summer Semester in Mexico
Academics, Service Work, and Adventure
ProMexico and Jacksonville University's program combines classroom and in the field study of Mexico's culture, geography, and history, immersive Spanish, a hands-on community service development project, cross cultural interaction and homestay living, and exploration of Mexico.
Guided tours of Zapotec ruins, exploring rural , and traditional festivals compliment the academics and development work.
Program Overview
- Intensive group orientation
- 6 semester credits, fees, & transcripts from JU
- Academic classes four to five days a week
- Airport pick up in Oaxaca
- Full room and board with a local family
- Intensive Spanish Classes
- Funding of development project
- Visits to Archeologial sites, weekend hikes, and cultural activities
- 24 hour emergency contact on site
- Regular staff check ins and access to ProMexico office in Oaxaca
Academics
May 24 to June 15, 2008
Intensive Spanish, 3 credits
Geography & International Studies, 3 credits
Development Project
Projects may include building a school, educational development, or environmental conservation.
The final projects will be selected by Site Directors based on community need
Excursions
Yagul and Mitla Zapotec Ruins
Natural hot springs excursion
Cultural presentations and community festivals
Cost
$3,495 plus airfare
Enroll by February 28 for a $200 discount
Program fees do not include: international airfare, passport or visa fees, textbooks, insurance, independent travel during the program, or personal expenses. Program fees may change without notice due to currency exchanges and the unique nature of international travel.
